New parents experience a lot of anxiety and have tons of choices to make, when they set out to decorate their new baby’s nursery. If you are about to become a parent you will have many decisions to make about the degree to which raising your child will change your lifestyle. Many parents don’t care about a theme for their baby’s crib set.

Baby showers provide a bounty for the new parents which includes everything from sentimental homemade goods to noisy toys which are sure to give you a headache. Many of the gifts received will be items intended for the child’s use while sleeping: blankets, pillows, stuffed toys and the like. When planning your nursery decor safety should be a primary concern; there are many products out there that look adorable, but could present a hazard to your child.

Please be advised that the following are the types of nursery decor items that are safe for your baby. Baby bedding in a bag can cause problems if it is too fluffy since babies do not have the required motor functions to move things out of the way as well as adults do. Using a fluffy blanket when a baby is sleeping may cause suffocation.

You can still use the fluffy blanket your mother-in-law sent you, but use it when you have control of what is going into the baby’s mouth. In general, baby bedding and regular bed sheets should be equally flat. The bedding can be soft, but not fluffy, but if you must somehow use the bedding which is any fluffier than your average sheet or receiving blanket, it should only be used when you are holding the baby and should not be used in the crib with the child.

Pillows aren’t necessary for infants and most of them will wiggle off of a pillow if you choose to put them on one. Babies usually have a tendency to either lay flat of their backs, or lie on their stomachs (if they are able to roll over). Their heads, laid to one side. There are reasons for why baby bedding sets do not come with pillows. A baby can be placed in harms way because they lack the required coordination to remove obstructions. It’s been determined that pillows are not safe, necessary or needed and so they do not come with any baby bedding sets, even Max crib bedding.

Stuffed animals present a bigger problem than fluffy blankets and pillows and should therefore not be kept in the crib or bed with the child. Children enjoy hugging stuffed animals, although if the animal becomes a problem, the child may not be able to push it away.
