Beware of Toy Recalls When Buying Toys
When shopping for toys, it is important to know which of the toys that you are considering are safe to purchase and which ones are dangerous. Many toys on the shelves have been recalled but the stores would not stop selling them them. If you have not been keeping up with the news and the toy recall list, then you might buy some great looking toys that your children will love but these toys might contain some harmful materials. You need to be careful when buying toddlers toys or toys for babies especially because even a tiny amount of toxic substance in toys can hurt them.
It is a sad fact that toxic toys continue to be sold in stores nationwide, despite new laws that are there to protect children from harmful toys. Toy safety is an important issue that parents cannot ignore. While the majority of the toys on store shelves are safe, there continues to be some toys that pose some safety hazards to small children. As a result, parents and other child-care providers need to remain vigilant in order to avoid toy-related deaths and injuries. With more knowledge, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include toys that were considered safe such as those labeled as phthalate-free. Bear in mind that even some products labeled phthalate-free could contain the dangerous chemical.
While toy manufacturers should act swiftly to recall unsafe products and make it available for parents all the information they need to allow them to purchase safe toys for their children, some of them don’t. You might have heard of many toy recalls on TV but there are a lot more toy recalls that do not make it to the news. Therefore, parents do not know that they are unsafe to use or buy. The government agency that is supposed to keep toys safe called The Consumer Product Safety Commission have published alerts and information on toy safety but there are still lots of manufacturers that are ignoring Congress and continue to sell toys laden with toxic parts. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.
If you think you have a hazardous toy or any unsafe product, you should report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
