Keeping a child active can be good for their health. By allowing them to play they are gaining vital exercise as well as promoting good health and preventing obesity. The drive for increasing play among children and the drive for child safety go hand in hand. Toys can be entertaining and educational, but they can also be dangerous. In teh news, it always seems as if a product is being recalled for health and safety reasons; choking hazards, lead, cadmium, harmful magnets are just some of the reasons why.
It can be difficult to tell the difference between a safe toy and a dangerous toy. Sometimes there’s no way of knowing, it’s pot-luck; which is a frightening thought for a parent. If manufacturers are sceptical about their own products then we are bound to have some reservations! For some kind of reassurance, research the market and do a bit of digging yourself. Read the warning labels carefully, they are there for a reason. If you’re still weary of the product, trust you intuition, don’t buy it. Don’t give in, even if your child pulls a tantrum and is blue in the face; teach them a lesson, buy them some learning toys. In all seriousness, educational toys can benefit your child’s development by improving intellect and aiding in academic achievement.
An important factor, but one commonly overlooked, is age restrictions. Avoid toys with small parts; these can be lethal, especially for young children. Children under 3 tend to put everything in their mouths. Toddler toys which have separable parts which measures 1 1/4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches long can be a choking hazard. Magnets are also a danger; any type of toy which includes one should be avoided. But if the magnet is safely encased within heavy duty material, then it’s probably safe enough. Lead is poisonous, so investing in a lead paint level detector could be well worth the money. Lead is poisonous, but there are lead paint detectors available on the market which detect the amount of lead which is present in paint.

Is it just me or are toys not made the way they used to be. I remember when a toy would last you a good 10 years before anything would go wrong with it. You used to be able to run over your old toy car with a real one, and the real car usually came off worse. If you drop one of these modern toys, then you shouldn’t expect to be able to use it afterward. You spend weeks looking for all the bits and pieces that have cracked, smashed and fallen off.
There is an argument to say that toys these days are more technical, they do more stuff and therefore there are more parts to go wrong. This is a pretty lousy argument however as there are some toys that are just as simple these days, and yet they still fall apart. Also, think back to when got old train sets as toys, and the intricacies involved with the small parts and mechanics. Trains like these used to be heavy, but they sure were strong. You could make the trains have a head on collision at full speed and they just bounced off each other and kept on going.
So why are these toys being made to a low standard? Well, as you might expect it comes down to money. There are still some toy makers and distributors that provide good quality products, but they are sadly in the minority these days and most companies are more concerned with getting high volume of products, for low cost and built from rubbish materials.
The solution? If you’re buying for a girl, hunt around for the best gifts for women on trusted websites, where you know you’ll get quality. When buying gifts for men you’re more advised to actually go to a shop to take a look at the build quality. Boys tend to be a little rougher on their toys and so you’ll need to find something that really will stand the test of time

I am sure that there were various times during your childhood that you thought the world had fallen down around you – this is a feeling that all of us have experienced. Quite often, as we look back on those times as an adult, the things that upset us seem kind of trivial, but at a young age even the slightest problem can result in floods of tears.
At this time it was commonplace for one of our parents to hand us our most beloved and trusted cuddly toy. Indeed, our favorite soft toy went through a lot of childhood experiences with us. They are as much of a part as growing as training wheels on a bike and your first day at school.
The undoubted familiarity and comforting capabilities of a soft toy mean that they will always stay in your mind and heart long after the day that you were told you were too old to have one anymore. They may be inanimate and wordless in reality, but for a child their presence is something overwhelmingly positive and reassuring.
Children have plenty of toys to choose from, many of which are more ‘cool’ than a soft toy, but none of the others available offer much in the way of personality and friendliness. Due to their softness and their floppy arms they are far more huggable than any other toy, and they act in much the same way as a comfort blanket for many children. In fact, look at the most favored childhood toy of anyone now grown up and you are likely to see it a little threadbare due to its use as a comforter.
One of the most wonderful things about a cuddly toy is that it is safe enough for a child to have in bed with them as they try to sleep. Having a familiar face next to us as we tried to sleep is something that made being alone in the dark easier to deal with.
That they have remained cherished through out the generations, gives little room for argument against soft toys being the number one toy. Something classic about the way they look and feel just makes them ideal for young children, and few among us would fail to admit that we had a faithful cuddly friend as a youngster who got us through some tough times.

You can probably remember your favorite toy when you were a child. Most often this is the one you couldn’t leave the house without and had pride of place on your bed. You probably had a favorite type of toy as well, maybe a dolls house, toy cars or maybe just a ball and a cup. New findings from the London institute of Psychology have shown that they toys we play with when we are younger have a massive impact on us as adults. Below we examine some of the more interesting points the research highlighted.
1. Those children who were encouraged to play with educational toys did not become more intelligent, but were more analytical in their approach to problems in later life. The research showed that learning toys promoted patience and taught people to break down a problem into its simplest parts in order to overcome tasks
2. People who often played with dolls or toys that toys that had human qualities, developed better communication and interaction skills in later life. It is thought that by having a face that children could talk to whenever they wanted encouraged them to vocalise their thoughts and share their problems with their toys.
3. Probably the most controversial of the research’s findings was that the adults who accrued the greatest wealth and had most confidence, where those who had access to toys at all times when they were growing up. This means if children played with bath toys, took toys out and about with them and had access to toys at friends houses etc, they became more successful in later life.
There is of course the argument of unknown cause and effect which could undermine this research potentially. What is meant by this is do children become influenced by the toys they play with or do they pick certain toys because of the type of people they already are? The answer is probably a combination of the two, but the report is still very interesting.

Simply how can we know if a toy is safe? This is especially helpful to new parents and people who are purchasing a gift. The age recommendation will help you to avoid buying a toy which may be too advanced for a child, or a toy which may be risky to a very small child.
Toys with small parts should never be given to a youngster under the age of three years. kids in this age group frequently put objects into their mouths. This introduces a serious choking hazard. kids are very quick, and even though some people believe that they will have time to intervene if this happens, sadly, it is seldom the case. Toddlers should always be given age appropriate toys.
Painted toys are a bit of a dilemma. Unfortunately, many of these toys are manufactured in areas with standards that do not meet proper safety requirements. If you choose to purchase a painted toy, you should be sure to take a look at the country where it was manufactured. Find out what the toy safety standards and prerequisites are.
