toddlers and tantrums

Imagine understanding the secrets to managing your toddlers tantrums easily. The end of toddler tantrums, bribery, screaming and crying. This may only seem a dream if you have ever lived with a toddler. But is does not need to be. It is amazing that when it comes to parenting, or using techniques to get the right toddler behavior, we often think it should be in built or come naturally. But more often it is not something pre programmed into parents.

Parenting is a learned skill, just as we learn other skills. With good instruction, practice and repetition you can improve your skills and expand your knowledge. You can even modify theses skills and use them with different age groups or as your child grows. Parenting skills can be changed, adapted and varied to suit different age groups. When it comes right down to it, who wants to put their hand up and say “I don’t know how to deal with my child.” We may be confident to say this to family or even close friends, but it is often not something shared in public.

This I feel is very sad, because useful parenting skills can be learned; it is not necessarily a natural or inbuilt process for many people. Believe it or not the commonly called terrible twos, is actually quite normal behavior. It is in fact a healthy part of healthy development but how it is managed can make all the difference. By learning and applying different techniques you can have your toddler behave the way you want. These skills are foundation skills to which you can add other skills as your child grows.

Investing in your parenting development pays its rewards as you watch you child grow and flourish. Remember the baby tantrums are not a burden but a celebration of flourishing independence, mental development and most importantly an opportunity for parents to learn and develop new skills which they can keep and improve on through life.

Toddler Behavior

Sarah is a stubborn, wonderful little toddler. She knows what she wants and does not want and regularly has mini baby tantrums. From a very young age she started to assert her authority on the family with baby tantrums. The barrier of not having verbal language skills has not been a barrier for Sarah. She has been able to communicate very well with only limited speech. She has developed some words to communicate like no, up, this and that.

She communicates well even though it is non verbal. She screws up her face when she does not like something, but has the cutest cheeky grin when she gets what she wants. Sarah usually has her baby tantrum by crying, screaming and yelling if she does not get her way. This behaviour is consistent with the transition to toddler and marks a new stage of grown and skill development.

Sarah has begun having tantrums a lot earlier than her sister who is now 6. Sarah, who I call the queen of tantrums has had them since she was about 9 months.

I know many parents who love the toddler stage, but are also frustrated with the toddler problems associated with it. Tantrums, yelling, head banging and lying on the floor! The stage of development is frustrating, but also a time of wonder for the toddler.

Funnily enough, I am not too worried about this stage because I have learnt the secret to dealing with toddlers temper tantrums. I can assist my child by letting her develop and pass through the toddler stage whilst being a positive influence and have peace in the household.

To calmly deal with your toddler get the assistance from the help out there. The audio program which has been developed guides you, step by step through this challenging stage of child development. Not only will you learn how to deal with your toddler, but you will also learn valuable communication techniques. The skills can even be used with older children and even applied to work situations.

The impact of words on your toddlers behavior is massive. Sentence structure and the choice of words actually has a massive impact of toddler tantrums and their development. Did you know talking to your toddler in a certain way can actually have a huge impact on their behavior.

At this stage of development, dont just remain frustrated with your toddler. It is always a positive step to increase your parenting skills and there is assistance out there.

To the casual observer a child who is drawing or coloring in,  is just scribbling. The marks seem to be haphazard, almost meaningless. But there is much more happening in your young child’s mind as s/he engages in the physical act of drawing and coloring.

In fact, examining a child’s drawing gives us important insights into how drawing fits into the overall physical, emotional and cognitive development of the young child. From toddlerhood through primary school, children choose to draw and color, but the process starts much earlier – during toddlerhood.

At around the age of 18 months, toddlers become interested in scribbling. It seems to provide sensory enjoyment, but the child is also interested in the marks that are made. The act of doodling or scribbling can serve several useful purposes for the young child. Small muscle coordination and control improve with practice, cognitive abilities are exercised, opportunities for social interaction arise, and the physical movements provide emotional release.

Because a toddler’s small muscle control is not fully developed, he or she may approach the coloring sheet by grasping the marker with his or her fist and may have difficulty placing the marks exactly where he or she wants them. Movements are typically large, involving the whole arm with very little finger or wrist control. This is because the pattern of physical development proceeds from the center of the trunk outward.

With practice, the toddler will naturally improve his or her control, full control, however, will not be achieved until much later. A few toddlers rest the forearm on the drawing surface to give them additional control. A repetitive scrubbing motion is common among two-year-olds. This provides them with sensory enjoyment and making drawing a very physical act.

By providing children with the materials and opportunities to scribble a parent can promote physical skills. Just as babbling is a natural way to gain language, scribbling is a natural gateway to muscle control and coordination.

Intellectually toddlers are concerned with both the process and results of their art. They do not intend to represent objects at first. Instead, they are concerned with color and line. However, they may actually look at the scribbles they have made and, in surprise, recognize a shape and name it. While they may not have intended to draw a car, a house or a tree, the scribbles suggest the shapes. Children interpret, rather than intend. This is called fortuitous realism and becomes common as a child approaches three years of age.

As a parent you can encourage your child to draw and color by offering him or her opportunities to do so.  Let them loose on blank sheets of paper or provide them with a coloring book or coloring sheets, many of which  are available online. Little boys may enjoy coloring images of  cars and trucks or of favorite characters such as Pokemon and at sites like Pokemon Coloring Pages you’ll find the best Pokemon coloring pages free

Little girls on the other hand tend to prefer images of fairies and princesses and these too are plentiful online.

Remember that toddlers need constant supervision while coloring due to the choking hazard that crayons pose.

When it comes to finding sheets, comforters and other items for an infant’s crib, the selection available is vast. Crib sets may be designed for boys, for girls, or for babies of either sex. Though you may buy each piece of a bedding set separately doing so will cost significantly more money. There are sets of bedding for babies, just like there are for adults. Sets come with sheets, pillow cases, comforter, shams, and skirts. Like adult bedding, baby sets will include coordinating comforter, a crib sheet, bumper pads, and dust ruffle. Purchase a set if you want the bedding to match a theme. Consider buying bedding for the baby’s crib in a couple of colors so you don’t get bored with them. You could make the bed materials that you choose as the theme in your baby’s room.

When shopping take note of the many different fabrics, colors and styles in which bedding is available. What you like will determine what you buy, for instance if you like cotton, you won’t buy fleece and if you like flannel you won’t buy silk. An alternative to silk sheets are cotton or flannel sheets, which many parents prefer because they cost less, and are easier to clean than silk. Knowing that all colors, fabrics and themes are already matching is the big advantage of buying bedding by the set. With a bed-in-a-bag set, you may completely alter the feel of the room. Buying separate pieces offers more flexibility, which is more important to some parents. However, if you prefer to coordinate your own ensemble, most stores offer separate pieces as well as sets.

Choosing bedding that is gender specific is a significant consideration in your purchase. Some might frown on your choice to decorate your baby boy’s room in shades of pink but they wouldn’t bat an eyelash if you opted to paint your little girl’s room blue! Most companies are aware of existing fads and designs in infant bedding so that they may offer the consumers what they want. Manufacturers and retailers are in touch with the popular trends so finding exactly what you want should not be difficult.

Airplanes, trucks, fire engines and sports motifs are only a few of the more popular themes for a boys room. Bedding intended for use in a baby boy’s room tend to be in the brighter colors like reds, blues and oranges while those for little girls tend to be more subdued hues. Fairies, princesses, butterflies, ballerinas or flowers could be the themes of baby girl. Soft colors are usually used for girl’s bedding. And as you can imagine, this is not a full list of boys’ or girls’ themes that are available. If you prefer your bedding to be gender neutral, perhaps for reuse with future children, there are many options available, such as Noah’s Ark Animals, the solar system, geometric patterns and many popular cartoon characters, such as Winnie the Pooh from Giggles crib bedding set. Bedding with their favorite characters will keep the kids happy for a while, but as they get older they will move onto new favorites so you’ll probably in turn end up having to buy new crib bedding.

Locating exactly the design you have in mind may not be possible. If you are handy with a sewing machine you can take on the project of making your own baby bedding sets or else invest in having a customized pattern made to your specifications. The most prestigious children’s bedding is even produced using precious metals such as gold and silver.

It might be hard to buy the right bedding for your child, but don’t forget to consider the cost as well as the style.
