Quilts might not be your first thought when it comes to baby bedding, but they are perfect for baby nursery. Quilt fabrics in colors that complement your nursery’s decor along with your baby’s quilt being soft and wonderfully warm complete the design. Crib bedding sets the atmosphere of the room yet remain useful.

It isn’t hard to make a quilt if you have Internet access to research how to sew and design quilts. To find a quilt for your baby’s bedding you can go online and find ideas at no cost. If it is your first quilt, and you are not exactly sure of the mechanics involved, look at the quilting kits that come with instructions and pre-cut fabric pieces.

People who are first time quilters should be sure to start with simple projects and move on to more difficult designs later. Beginner and hobby quilters will find that their pattern comes with easy to follow instructions and helpful tips. You can even cook up your own template, but make sure that you’re a good enough quilter to make it worth your while. For the serious quilter, there are several tools to make it easier to create baby bedding, such as quilting frames to stretch the fabric and keep it aligned.

Baby bedding normally has a theme such as animals, while simple baby quilts will just have squares of fabric pieced together. You must know the use, colors and the location in order to find the right type of quilt and narrow down the fabrics you can use. Even a beautiful, intricately-designed quilt can clash with a room’s decor, diminishing its visual appeal.

There are many different machines made especially for quilting available in stores and online for those who do not with to quilt by hand. With mechanical quilting, the process may be faster, but if you want to sell them, you will get only a lesser price than quilts made by manual stitching.

Once you have learned how to quilt, it is a wonderful hobby since it is very relaxing and a great stress reliever. For this reason, baby bedding is an excellent project for an expectant mother.

Baby memorabilia does not belong in the ‘throw-away society’ of today, we tend to hold on to many of their items. Even so, before you give birth, many people will be happy to donate unused nursery furniture and crib bedding. Since babies are a costly undertaking, be thankful for this selection of cribs and bedding for infants. Before using any baby bedding, be sure that it is completely safe.

Your baby’s first bed is very important whether it is Moses basket or a crib. Before taking the bed home make sure beyond doubt that it is perfect. The baby bedding may look new. Have you checked its safety? If the cradle is of wicker, check up the joints and remove any loose things. The mattress must be replaced as it would have definitely become bad. Babies like to put things in their mouth, so be sure that no loose ends or pieces of material are left over when fitting the skirt.

The drapes should be fixed properly. Loose materials might be caught by the child to put inside the mouth. If the budget allows it is always best to buy new for baby in lieu of safety reasons says the organization of the Juvenile Products Manufacturer’s Association (JPMA), regulating the USA and the British Standards (BS) set in the UK. The JPMA seal of approval or the BS ‘Kite’ mark are shown on products that have been safety tested and meet the requirements.

I don’t have a problem with hand-me-downs myself; I just make sure to thoroughly inspect them for safety.  Anyway, it isn’t good for the environment to throw away perfectly decent furniture and baby bedding. As your baby will spend quite a good time in the crib, it is worth spending time on it to see whether it is safe and comfortable. Please remember the following points when you check your baby equipment for safety. Be sure that snags that could catch on a baby’s clothes, as well as all chipped, loose, or toxic lead paints, are removed. Make sure that the baby’s head does not get caught between the bars of the crib by making sure the spindles are no farther than 2 and 3/8 inches apart and that the header and footer boards are securely attached with no spaces for the baby to get caught in. The joints and fixings should be tight .Otherwise the crib will wobble. It should only take one hand to raise and lower the side rail. Once raised, it should be fully secured. The final point to verify is that the mattress is clean and firm and the  top of the side rail is at least 22 inches above the mattress.

A new mattress that would fit in the crib is always better. Nursery bedding can present a risk of suffocation, so tie bumper strings tightly and ensure that the baby can’t pull down the bumper, or simply remove the bumper. For babies under a year old, overheating can be caused by using duvets, quilts, sheepskin, and pillows. Sheets and blankets may be combined and used. Also keep a thermometer in the room ready for use. You will be astonished at a baby’s ability to climb and reach things, so cribs must be kept away from curtains, window blinds, cords, lamps or nearby furniture onto which they might lift themselves.

While you are enjoying your baby, and experiencing the wonderment and fun it’s easy to forget how quickly your new baby will learn and adapt and literally grow up right in front of your eyes.
