Choosing Blankets for Your Little Baby
Buying baby blankets might feel like a trivial job but in reality it is actually one of the more important decisions you need to make for your little one. Now obviously you don’t need to wreck your brains over it, but merely need to take care of a few [simplstraightforward] points.
First thing first, your baby will be very sensitive to everything around it. As adorable as your little one is, he or she is even more delicate and must be sheltered from all foreign substances that could harm them. Hence the first thing I check when purchasing a baby blanket is the quality of the fabric. Usually 100% cotton fabrics are not harmful for the baby. They feel soft and comfortable as well. Pure cotton or cotton fleece blankets generally make the baby sleep really nicely without irritating their skin.
You might also want to look at blankets made out of wool. If you are living in a place with an extremely cold climate, then cotton blankets might not work out for your child. They would wake up in the middle of the night feeling cold. As a matter of fact, wool has been the preferred fabric material for manufacturers for many years now. It is only now that several manufacturers opt for either cotton or some organic fabric due to environmental considerations or because the child feels too hot with woolen blankets.
Other than the fabric being used, the next characteristic I check when it comes to purchasing baby blankets is the pattern. Now you will be asking yourself, how does the pattern make any difference to the baby? Yes it does. Your kid is much more intelligent than what you can imagine. Their brains are growing at a quick pace. As a matter of fact the first five years of the kid, the brain grows the fastest as compared to the rest of a person’s life. Hence you need to aid brain development as much as you can while your child is still a baby. I always buy blankets such as the Heirloom baby blanket which have clear-cut shapes and patterns printed on them. A blanket with colorful stripes on them is a good example. Whenever your baby happens to stare at the blanket, their eyes will definitely get attracted to the patterns and colors on them. It has been confirmed scientifically that patterns, colors and shapes assist in a child’s brain development and the more they stare at it the better.
Once you have the fabric and pattern of your liking, next thing to look at would be the length of the blanket. Blankets must not be small enough that your child will outgrow it very quickly but at the same time it must not be so huge that your child would be extremely uncomfortable being wrapped inside it. Your kid must not be able to push around the blanket effortlessly and you need to take care of this. All babies move in their sleep every few hours and they might accidentally end up pulling the blanket over their nose. This is the reason you need to ensure your baby does not easily push or pull the blanket towards their head and is completely comfortable underneath it.
A good baby blanket is essential for a good night sleep for your child. A weary and restless child would be cranky all the time and would affect their development as well. If you keep these easy to remember points in mind while buying a baby blanket, it would help them enormously in feeling cozy and relaxed.
