When it comes time to give a baby gift many people rush out to buy what is cute. These gifts are usually not very practical or useful. What new parents really need are gifts that they can use. Sometimes finding the right baby gift can be a real challenge. This is especially true if the new parents do not have a registry.

When looking for a toy for the new baby safety and education should be your main concerns. Babies will often love toys that are very simple like colorful soft blocks are stackable cups. You should probably avoid toys with electronics or complicated parts. Do not buy a baby a toy that has parts small enough to be a choking hazard. You should also steer away from any pull toy with a long cord that could get wrapped around the baby’s neck.

While so many of the frilly little outfits are adorable it is best to stick with simple things. Babies tend to wear fancy outfits only occasionally for pictures. When buying baby clothing it is a good idea to purchase things one size too big. When doing this consider the season it will be when it baby is able to wear them. Most of the time parents need outfits that the baby can wear all the time. Cute little onesies, pajamas and playsuits will get lots of use.

When buying accessories think about things the parents are likely to need many of including burp clothes and blankets. Make sure everything you buy is easily washed and soft to the touch. Nursing pillows are another great baby gift as they can be used several different ways as the baby is growing and maturing. While not very exciting wipes and diapers will definitely be most welcomed by the parents to be. When purchasing gifts for a baby remember that they spend most of their time eating, sleeping, and pooping. Any gift that helps the new parents with these three tasks is a good gift. A teething baby isn’t usually a happy baby. Unfortunately, during the first couple of years of their lives, they’re almost constantly teething. This makes it difficult to tell whether your child has a new tooth coming in or whether something else is wrong. To help you out, here are some of the signs that a new tooth is about to make an appearance in your baby’s mouth.

Teething and colds have a lot of the same symptoms, so keep a close eye on the situation. As the teeth are pushing their way up, they can cause pressure on the ear canals and sinuses. This can cause cold symptoms to occur. These symptoms can be as mild as a runny nose or as extreme as a full blown ear infection.

Some people aren’t aware that baby teething can lead to ear infections. Ear infections can be a result of the new teeth causing pressure to the baby’s ear canal. Then fluid backs up and gets infected. An ear infection will need to be treated as soon as possible to prevent any permanent damage to the ear drum.

Likewise, your child may develop a fever during the teething process. However, you should be aware that normal teething will not result in a high fever. If your baby develops a high fever at any time, don’t ignore it. There could be a chance that either an ear infection or sinus infection has developed. You’ll need to take your baby to its pediatrician to be examined and see if a prescription is in order.

When your little one is teething, there will be several other symptoms you can look for. For example, red cheeks usually accompany this process. You might notice that one cheek is red and the other is normal; chances are the new tooth will emerge on the side that’s red.

Excessive drooling is one more symptom of teething. Babies are always drooling anyway, but when they’re teething it becomes extreme. You might even find that you have to change your baby’s clothes frequently because of the excessive drooling.

Teething can also be the explanation for unexplained, sustained periods of crying and misery. Excessive crying is one of the hardest teething symptoms to deal with. This is usually accompanied by difficulty sleeping. These behaviors can be very hard on both of you.

Most sources of baby advice recommend giving your child a carefully measured dose of infant pain reliever to provide some relief. However, discuss the situation with your doctor before administering any medications, even over the counter ones.

Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your newborn baby. It gives her optimum nutrition and builds up her immune system. But for some mothers and their babies, it just isn’t an option. For various reasons, they find themselves turning to baby formula.

Some parents, however, are concerned about potential problems resulting from feeding cow’s milk to babies. They’re not comfortable with the thought of giving their baby formula. But the fact is that commercial baby formula is perfectly safe and nutritious.

Pure cow’s milk isn’t recommended for babies under a year old. It doesn’t contain the same nutrients in the right percentages that are found in breast milk. But baby formula isn’t just milk in a fancy package. A lot of science goes into preparing baby formula. It contains proteins and fats that resemble breast milk very closely.

There are also various kinds of baby formula that aren’t made from cow’s milk at all. Some newborns are lactose intolerant and can’t digest dairy products. However, there are several good alternatives.

Soy-based formula is one such choice. It’s made with soy protein and is lactose free. However, don’t buy regular soy milk because it’s not meant for babies; make sure it’s soy formula.

Formula containing protein hydrolysate is another alternative to dairy based products. The proteins in this formula have been broken down so that they are similar to the product of normal digestion.

You can get most of these products in different formulations to suit your needs. Powdered formula is the least expensive. It’s prepared at home using boiled water. Concentrated liquid formula is also intended to be diluted with water, but is typically easier to prepare.

When preparing either powdered or concentrated products, it’s important to measure carefully. It’s essential that you use the correct ratio of water to formula for the health of your baby. Also be sure to sterilize all utensils that are used to prepare the formula.

Pre-mixed, ready to use formula, however, can be used straight from the container. It’s also the most expensive of your various options. Similar to the other formulations, you can feed it to your baby either warmed up or at room temperature, depending on her preferences.

A potential problem with giving formula to your baby is that it’s easier to see how much your child is drinking. According to trusted sources of baby advice, you should never force your child to drink more than she is willing to consume. Even if she’s not taking in as much as you think she should, when she should, it’s best to just put the bottle away and wait until she’s ready. Babies go by their internal clock, not the one on the wall.

Child safety is the number one priority for each and every parent. We are spending more time in our cars from commuting to work to going shopping and child safety in a car is becoming a major issue of concern. It has been established that many child injuries during car accidents could have been averted if the child was safely tucked in a car seat.

The seat belt that you choose should be the right size for your child. Most car seat manufacturers have well documented recommendations which you should follow. Infants and newborns should always be placed in a rear facing car seat. This should be at your vehicle’s back seat.

Talking to your family and friends should lead you towards a good quality child seat. That is how I found the Britax Frontier booster. Research for a car seat that has a good safety record from the hundreds that are available in the market. This is a major responsibility for every parent who wants to keep their children safe.

A car seat is not a toy that you can play with but an important part of every day life. You should learn how to properly install and also use the car seat. Take the time to read and understand how to install the seat in your car. If you have to, get one of the sales people come and install it for you.

Though there are hundreds of car seats out there, it is important to choose one that is approved by your state or country. Become acquainted with the various safety regulations and ensure that your chosen car seat follows them. Even a simple Google search should point you to the right direction on car seat requirements.

Lastly, you should never leave your child with anyone who does not know the importance of using car seats. Insist that they all know how to properly use a car seat. If you can take the time to teach the nanny how to cook your favourite food, then there should be time to teach them how to properly use a car seat.

It is absolutely critical that you start to stimulate your baby’s mind as early as possible when you consider that 75% of your child’s intellectual growth occurs before the age 6. Sights, sounds, smells, and touches – All are extremely influential on a developing mind.  These early inputs and influences help them to learn and grow, no matter what age.  Considering this, it is extremely important for any parent to create a stimulating environment for their child.  A few ways to stimulate your child’s intellect are as follows.

1. Provide lots to look at.
Stimulate your newborn’s visual sense by surrounding them with color. Place them in a play pen such as the Graco Pack n Play Playard In Bugs Quilt so they’ll be surrounded by different colors and shapes for them to look at. Hang a mobile above their playpen or hang colored shapes on the wall.  You might also want to hang a baby-safe mirror on the wall so your baby can recognize themselves.  Add whatever you can to the visual excitement of your child’s world to spice up their environment.

2. Provide enough to listen to.
You can begin to play music to child as soon as possible, newborns love music even when in the womb.  Play a CD of nature sounds for your baby – whistling wind, rainforest sounds, or rain showers – anything to stimulate your infant’s sense of hearing. newborns love to be sung to, there is no more beautiful voice on earth to your child than Mommy’s voice. Encourage your child to make their own sounds and noises – give them musical toys or rattles to play with.  Teach them how to clap. The more they explore their own sounds, the more they learn.

3. Provide tons to touch.
Make sure your infant has plenty of room to crawl or roll around in – you might want think about a larger size play pen, such as the Graco Pack n Playard, which affords them enough space to explore the world around them. Play hand games with your newborn – paddycake is always a favorite. Involve your baby with your motion – bounce and dance with them in your arms. Let them touch and explore different textures. Different fabrics or toys with different surfaces, for example the toys in the Graco Pack n Playard give your newborn different textures to touch. The more you allow your newborn to touch and feel the world around them, the greater the intellectual stimulation and the greater the learning.

One of the most important aspects of your child’s development is their intellectual stimulation. It is up to you as a parent to provide an environment to your baby where they can safely explore and learn about the world around them. Give them a vibrant, colorful, visual world to look at. Give your child the gift of stimulating and soothing sounds of music.  Give your child many things to touch – all the different textures and surfaces you can find.  All of these things are be very influential on your infant and on their mind.

These days, there are numerous products available that claim to be important for the skin care of a newborn. But it might surprise you to know that some experts believe that these baby skin care products may actually do more harm than good. This is because of the chemicals that some of them contain.

You want to avoid exposing your baby to chemicals as long as possible. Leave your baby’s skin to develop unimpeded. Allergies, eczema, and other irritations are less likely to occur this way.

Your baby needs only the simplest of skin care. So keep away from any and all chemical laden products in your baby’s first month. Indeed, in the first month of your baby’s life you really only need to use a soft cloth and some water. If your baby has thick hair, you can use a baby comb to clean it while bathing.

Pure and Natural

Natural is the best way to go when approaching baby skin care. To follow a natural skin care routine, leave your baby’s skin untreated as much as you can.

After your baby’s birth, you might see a white, sticky coating on your baby’s skin. Don’t remove it, because it’s a natural skin moisturizer. It should be allowed to penetrate the skin on its own.

It’s doubly important that you stay away from these products if your baby was born prematurely. This is because a premature baby’s skin is even more delicate than other babies. Don’t use any skin care products at all on your premature baby until after the original due date has passed.

Cleaning the Cord Area

Be sure to keep the region around the cord clean and dry until it falls off. Lotions and powders are unnecessary. If the area gets dirty simply use a soft cloth and water to wipe it clean before patting dry.

You might need to follow a different routine for cord care if your baby is sick or premature. An antiseptic product might be needed if there’s a risk of infection. Ask your doctor for advice when it comes to skin care for your premature or sick baby.

Don’t use baby wipes until your baby is at least one month of age. Choose baby wipes that don’t contain alcohol and are unscented. They should be as mild as possible. Your newborn will do best with moisturizers containing a base of emollients.
