Selecting the Correct Baby Stroller And Car Seat
Buying baby strollers and car seats for our children is not as easy as it was for our parents. When they were buying these items there wasn’t a large selection as only a few companies manufactured them and they pretty much all resembled each other. These days there are so many different baby strollers and car seats on the market it can be confusing. This article will give you some tips for choosing the baby strollers and car seats that are the best for you and your child.
The most crucial thing that you need to consider when it comes to selecting hese items is safety. This applies to baby strollers and car seats. Above all else comes the safety of our children. Make sure that any of the baby strollers and car seats that you are considering are safe and have been thoroughly tested. The baby strollers should have an automatic lock that engages when you unfold it to keep the stroller from folding back up with your child sitting in it. Car seats need to meet all of the requirment that are set forth in the federal and state regulations for car seat and child safety.
Baby Strollers
You should consider these few things when it comes to strollers. Make sure that the stroller unfolds and refolds easily. There are many models that allow you to open and close the strollers with one hand, which is great when the other hand is glued to your child. The next item is the brakes, make sure that they operate easily. There are a good number of models that have lever brakes on the back wheel that are simple to engage with a flip of your foot. Third, you should think about the handle. Lots of strollers made thse days have little tray that you can put your items in, like shopping bags, your cell phone, cup holders and a place to hold your purse. Finally, you should consider the material that the frame is made from. Is the stroller going to be strong enough to hold up under use or is it simply to flimsy for regular wear and tear. Heavier strollers are made from steel or aluminum and will last much longer than the lightweight ones that are made from plastic.
Car Seats
With car seats, you need to worry about what is going to work best for your child and yourself , besides the obvious issues of the childs safety. Manufacturers develop car seats for all of the developmental stages of your childs growth. Seats that are “rear facing”, are made for children that are 20 poounds or less and less than a year old. For children of 1 year to 4 years your child needs to have a forward facing car seat. A booster seat is designed for older children in the age group of between 4 and 8 and under 4″9″” tall. When your child outgrows that, they can sit in the car like older passengers and be buckled up in a regular seat belt. For an all around seat that is designed for nearly all of the developmental stages, you will want to go with a style known as the convertible car seat.
In the end, you need to make sure that the car seat and baby stroller that you choose for your child is something that is easy to use for you, while providing safety and comfort for your child. You should not have to struggle with baby strollers and car seats.

we never used a car seat for air travel. I found it easier to let him move around when the seat belt sign was off – he needed to be able to lay his head in my lap, get up and walk up the aisle with me, put the seat tray up and down for eating, coloring, playing, etc. Seems like a car seat would prohibit much of that.

there is a mistake in this video, the seat shown only goes up to 40 lbs forward facing, not the 65-80 that they state. I own one identical to it.
The use of baby strollers has been traced to the Victorian er…
In California, car seat laws err further on the side of caution than many other states. California state law requires children to ride in a federally approved baby car seat or child booster seat until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds. California also requires children under age 16 to be buckled up with a seat belt.
Too bad they didn’t also raise the headrest behind the girl after putting her in the booster! A booster is GREAT, but whiplash injury is also a danger.
I worked at a baby store, & I learned a lot on carseats…
From what I know… theyre equally safe…. Its just easier to use an infant one with a small baby….
Most convertible carseats have cushions to help smaller babies fit in safely,… They're just as safe!
The benefit to using an infant one for a while, is that if baby falls asleep in the car, you can just take the whole carseat out & take baby wherever your going…. In the convertible ones, you have to undo it, get baby out…. Usually wakes a sleeping baby up!
I would go ahead and use the infant one for another month or 2, just because its really more comfy for baby…. But if you want to try the convertible one, go ahead! Theyre equally safe when installed right!!!
