You can get a picture frame with a prayer that frames the picture, or a little cross, or Rosary beads, a cross for over her crib. A precious moments doll the prays the Guardian Angel prayer, or you can give a card and money or simply a card.

Kate

Steve asks…
What to Do with A Baby Shower and Baptism?
I have 4 months to go until my firstborn is due and would like to know when would be the best time to plan a baby shower. I also have this concern about having a baby shower and a baptism. In our culture, it’s expected to have a small get-together/party (at the parents’ expense) right after the baby‘s christening. However, as a practice, guests usually give gifts (in cash or in kind). Wouldn’t it be a bit materialistic for me, as the mom-to-be, to have people giving gifts in both the shower and baptism or is it just appropriate? In our country, a baby shower is also a must for a first-time mom. This is usually hosted by a good girl-friend or a bestfriend and guests mostly give gifts as well. I may be a first-time mom and, indeed, would need all the help I can get but I wouldn’t want my guests to feel obliged to give gifts when invited to both events. How necessary is a baby shower anyway? And, is a baby announcement necessary as well or will any invitation to the baptism be enough? Would it also be appropriate to state the baby registry?

Baby Talk answers:
A relative or girlfriend gives the shower and they can put right in the invitation where you are registered. I would do birth announcements. We always had just family for the baptisms, but if your parents hosted something, that’s great then. The thing is if someone else gives these parties for you and or your child, it’s not like YOU are inviting them begging for gifts. Most people know baby shower etiquette includes some kind of gift, and one would seem appropriate at the party too. Just roll with it. Baby gifts are fun.

Bob asks…
What do you get for a baptism gift?
baby girl

Baby Talk answers:
I’d get a little necklace with a cross on it. Maybe a higher quality one, like sterling silver. And if you have the oppourtunity to get it engraved, do the date of the baptism and/or her name.

Nancy asks…
what’s a good baptism gift for an 18 mo old girl?
My son received a ton of stuff ranging from college $ to baby clothes. What’s the most appropriate gift to give?

Baby Talk answers:
It would really depend on your budget. You can buy baby gifts sets with tube and accessories if you want or something simple like baby clothes and toys. Anything would do. Here are more ideas for baby gifts: http://www.babylandgifts.com/baby-gift-sets-c-19.html
