Choosing Baby Linens Carefully: Necessary Things to Keep in Mind
The perfect nursery usually starts with the perfect baby crib bedding. You’ve planned out the perfect nursery, from the furniture set to the wall color – but hold on a second! It’s very important to choose the right crib bedding, so make sure you have considered these things before you buy:
– Choose natural, soft fibers like 100% cotton.
– Keep in mind that you’re not going to have a lot of time with a new baby in the house, so you will want bedding that’s as easy to care for as possible – in other words, make sure it’s machine washable.
– Suffocation is a serious concern for young babies, so the first thing to do is make sure the crib sheet fits properly. There are, however, elastic straps designed to improve the fit of your crib sheets, so you can use those if you have any concerns.
– Before buying a bedding set, decide if you really need one. A three piece bedding set includes a comforter, a crib sheet, and a bumper pad. But, the American Academy of Pediatrics questions the safety of crib bumpers and recommends against using loose blankets or comforters on a baby under one year old. Purchasing separates can be smarter and cheaper than buying a bedding set. And don’t worry – your bedding can still match when you’re buying individual pieces. In fact, you can get a more unique nursery by using separates and bit of imagination.
– When everything else has been taken care of, then you should consider the decor of the nursery.
When considering how much you spend, think about the long term. If you get good-quality bedding, you can use it on both the crib and your toddler bed, allowing you to use it for several years. Unless you know you’re not having more children, it makes sense to purchase gender neutral baby bedding like the Vintage 4 piece crib set, because you won’t need to buy new bedding. If you are sure there will be no more kids, however, then buying high-quality (and expensive!) baby bedding is not so important. Whether you buy expensive bedding or cheap, a set or separates, make sure you buy extras, because you’ll need them!

This beats any other portable crib on the market. It is worth every penny and is far superior to any other portable crib, particularly if you are going to travel via airplane.
That's really cute! A standard crib sheet will be way too big though. Crib sheets are very deep (the average crib mattress is about 4 – 6 inches deep) and pack and play mattresses are very thin. They're not even really mattresses. Do you remember the blue mats we used to have in gym class for tumbling, exercises, etc.? They're about that thick (an inch or so) and are only foam–there's no springs in them. You could definintely put a crib sheet in it, but you'd have to find a way to make the corners very secure. Having loose fitting sheets poses a sufocation hazard to your baby.

I've seen some with low-profile designs, just make sure they do not stick out enough for the child to get clothing caught on or make a space that the child can get a limb stuck in.
