There are so many ways to scrapbook your baby’s first year… in fact, it may be overwhelming! So here are a few ideas to help you gather and organize all those special mementos and create a beautiful scrap book, or two or three that will be treasured by you and your family for years to come!

This Is My Family

This scrap book will include pages for each member of the family – Mom, Dad, brother, sister, grandparents, even pets! You could also include pictures of the family home… the baby’s room, the backyard, and other places the baby loves to be. You may also want to include pictures of their community – church, park, baby store – any place they’ve been and had fun!

My First Birthday (or other significant event)

These are easy to compile! Just gather lots of beautiful pictures, the mementos, and keepsakes from that day and get started. Don’t forget to include the invitations, guest list, menu, games played, and other important activities of the day.

A Day in My Life

This theme is a great idea for a mini scrapbook. Take pictures of various events in your baby’s day… even if it’s just sitting in the high chair. It is a great way to capture the silly and precious moments in their life. This makes a great gift for grand parents, aunts and uncles… any family member who can’t visit your baby as often as they’d like!

Watch Me Grow

This will be a compilation of all the major milestones of their first one or two years. There are the “standard” firsts of course… first doctor visit, first step, first tooth, first word. But don’t forget the other, just as important, firsts: First Day Home, First Night with Grand Ma, First Church Visit, First Trip to the Zoo… you get the idea.

We’re So Excited You’re Coming

This is a good theme for children coming into a new family (i.e.: adoption, blended family, etc.). Document how you prepared for their arrival. That could include decorating their new room, having a family meeting to discuss the change, meeting with school officials… anything involved in the process. This is a great time to journal the feelings of the family too – not just the pictures.

So Many Reasons to Love You

This scrapbook will be a collection of pictures, mementos and journaling about the ways you and the family interact with your baby. Show simple acts of togetherness… then document your feelings. This type of book lends itself to singe picture layouts with lots of room for journaling.

In Summary

These are but a few of the types of scrapbooks you can create to document and preserve all those special Baby Memories into one, two or even three fabulous scrapbooks!

Steven asks…

Baby name meaning,is it really that important?

I know a guy named Leroy. Now the meaning of Leroy is “king” but he is hardly a king.In fact he never completed high school,he failed ninth grade two times and then just dropped out.I don’t even think he ever completed his education. Therefore i don’t think name meanings effect your child’s life that much.

Don’t get me wrong,it is a good idea to have a nice or positive name meaning but i don’t think it will change the course of a life.

Baby Talk answers:

name meaning doesnt matter. my dads name has a beautiful meaning and he is not a beautiful person. at all. no effect whatsoever

Relayia Paige
Relayia Dawn
(It’s pronounced : RA-LAY-YA)

Baby Talk answers:

My opinion is that kids will make fun of it and teachers will never say it correctly. They’ll say “Hi I’ll lay ya!” You need to really think about this. I have two girls and I know.

My own name is Sora. Depending upon the culture, it can mean “princess,” “sky,” or “warbling songbird.” I think “warbling songbird” is hilarious.

Baby Name Meaning?

My six year old’s name is Zander Cole, Although everyone loves the name I never can find anything with his name on it! I am 37.5 weeks with another boy and my fiance and I decided to give this one his middle name! So We came up with Canaan Levi, Does anyone know the meaning to Canaan! My brother who is very religous said that, that is where Jesus performes his first miracle by turning water into wine. in the land of Canaan! But my aunt (who tends to think she is never mistaken) Says that, that is where they punished people and they took them to the land of Canaan to suffer!! Lord knows I don’t have any idea Any Help????

Baby Talk answers:

Canaan is not where they took people to be punished…i dont think so at least.

Canaan is the land where the israelites left egypt to go to. it was the promised land. the land of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. im not sure about where Jesus performed his first miracle though. i do know that Canaan was the promised land though.

thats a pretty cool name. but, if you call his nickname is Cain…well, Cain wasnt a very good person.

My baby is due on July 5th and I still have no idea what to name my little princess. All the muslim names are so common! Please help me.

Baby Talk answers:

Lamia (said Lam-YA – my mother spells her name “Lamia” but when I looked up Muslim names, the name was listed spelled with a Y so I put that name down below; some sources say that Lamia means glisten, glitter) *
Lamya (possessing brown lips – lahm YAH)
Lina (delicate, compassionate – said Lee-na)
Layla (said Lay-la, dark beauty)
Zahra (flower)
Afrah (means happiness) *
Athar (means pure)
Bajila (dignified, venerated)
Bashiyra (joy)
Basima (smiling)
Farhana (joyful, happy)
Fariha (happy)
Fatthana (very beautiful)
Cantara (bridge)
Buthayna (beautiful woman – said boo thay nah) *
Halimah (patient, merciful) *
Hasna (strong)
Haniyya (pleasant)
Hayfa (delicate, slender) *

Donna asks…

Where can I search baby names by meaning?

There are lots of baby name sites, but I’m looking for one that lets me search by meaning (and also, preferably sort by origin and gender). Can anyone recommend one?

Baby Talk answers:

I use this website it gives you everything and every name. http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/

on the right you will find links to origen, gender catogry ect…

Charles asks…

What is a good baby name finder that can be searched by the desired name meaning?

Can you provide the name of a site or link that allows you to enter the baby name meaning that you want, and that gives you the name associated with that meaning…like a reverse name search.

Baby Talk answers:

behindthename.com

Chris asks…

Are there any sites where you can search for a baby name by meaning?

Baby Talk answers:

http://www.behindthename.com/ is by far the most accurate site that offers this option.

You can simply search by meaning, or you can click on “Name Themes” (on the left-hand side of the front page), where the search is already done for you for many popular meanings! ;) Names that mean beautiful or fiery, names of flowers, colorful names (a “red” name for your little red-head), Presidential names … pretty much anything you can think of. ;)

Paul asks…

search baby names by meaning?

Is there a website where you enter a meaning and get the names that go with that meaning? Instead of entering a name and getting the meaning.

Baby Talk answers:

http://www.babynames.com/Names/search.php

David asks…

Search for a baby name by its meaning?

I would like to search for a specific three word name meaning to find a name. Most sites let you search by name, the letter, the rough spelling, where you can search by meaning you can only list one word.. if anyone can reccommend a site where I can search by name meanings, thank you that would be really great.

Susan asks…

Does the meaning of a name affect your decision when naming your baby?

My husband and I are talking about possible names for our daughter due in September. I’ve been using baby name websites for ideas and always read the origin and meaning. One of his favorite names means ‘ill-omened’ or ‘unlucky’. I like the name but am hung up on the meaning. What do you think? Is it silly to eliminate a name just because of the meaning?

Baby Talk answers:

No, the meaning of a name does not have any basis on my decision whether or not to use the name. Who gave it the meaning, anyway? And it does really mean anything-just because a name means “kind, sensitive, beautiful, loving” does not mean the person is going to have those characteristics-know what I mean?

I choose names based on whether or not like the name, and what meaning give the name. Alice means a lot to me, for instance, because it was my grandmother’s name. I do not particularly care for the name Tim because someone with that name abused me as a child. That is all that matters.

Maria asks…

How do I pronounce “HROTHBERTINA”? A baby girl name of English origin. Meaning is bright and famous.?

Baby Talk answers:

silent h
roth ber tina
terrible name
teacher calling the roll ‘Hrothbertina?’ here.
Hrothbertina super is ready.
