Rachel asks…

Does anyone knows how to amend the child legal custody to other parent in California?

I divorced with my wife 10 years ago and now I want to amend the child custody from my ex-wife to me, how do I file the amend at the court? What forms do I need?

Baby Talk answers:

You need a lawyer especially if your ex wife does not agree to the amendments. She could fight it in court and you would need one anyway, might as well have it done right in the first place.

Davina asks…

How do I get Custody of a child in California?

My friends son has problems back home and they want to send him with me to live up with me and they are willing to give me guardian ship or custody what ever is needed. So I am trying to figure out if I need a lawyer or I can just fill out the forms myself or get an power attorney. Other information about me is, I am married and i am in the military, We want him to become my dependent for he can also get medical care while with me. Their son is on probation and I know if the child moves that the probation office will just transfer their case to the new county so I think that will not be an issue. He wants to come and make the change so I am hoping to get this process done as soon as possible.

Baby Talk answers:

Consult your attorney. Perhaps JAG would help you or make an appropriate referral.

Custody matters are too important to guess your way through it.

Call your lawyer.

Steve asks…

Forms I need to re-petition a child custody order?

I need to re-petition a court ordered child visistation order and need to know which forms I need to fill out for the state of California. My ex-husband is the custodial parent to our 4 year old daughter and has not let me see or talk to her in 3 weeks. Friday the police department was involved in which I filed a report against him for violating the order. One of the officers then told me that I needed to go down the the courts and re-petition the court order. Does anyone know which forms I need for that? Thank you!!!

Baby Talk answers:

The police were right. If you already have a visitation order established by the court (even if it is stated as ‘reasonable’ visitation) all you need to do is to file a Contempt against him. What he is doing is totally unreasonable – especially to the child! What you need to do is pretty simple. The clerk of the court should provide you with the necessary document. In the alternative, you can go through the yellow pages and find an attorney that works in divorce and family matters that gives a free consultation and s/he will help you.

Bob asks…

Does anyone knows how to amend the child legal custody?

I have been divorced for 10 years, the child legal custody was granted to my wife as we requested, but now both me and my ex-wife want to amend / modify the child legal custody to me, anyone knows how to do it and what forms we need to file with the court? I am in California. thanks.

Baby Talk answers:

Call the court that you got this done in and they can tell you exactly what you need to do.

Wayne asks…

Aries personality…?

I am a taurus and currently expecting an Aries or Taurus too be born next year.
I am very much true to the Taurus temperment and emotions but not so much to other characterictics.
I realize that my baby (due 04/20) could be born under either moon. I don’t know anyone, born under Aries, to know what they are actually like.
My other children have been very true to their signs and I am wondering if this child will be the same. I am curious about emotion, temperment, honesty, strengths, and weaknesses.

I can look it up all day in books and on the internet but I want to know from real people and experiences.
Other children are Taurus (x3), a Virgo setting (I think that what it’s called, 9/22), and a Sagittarius.

Baby Talk answers:

I have an aunt born 4-20 whos is strongwilled.
Daughter and husband are Aries, Theyre loving, independant, cocky at times and not always concerned with everyones feelings and must be reminded.. You will be very different cuz thats a firesign wanting alot of action so compromise…

Richard asks…

Aries babies are delivered fast or slow?

My son, Kingston Gabriel, is due to be born on April 13th which will make him an Aries baby. I have heard that Arians are very fast to do everything and are very strong willed and want to be first at everything.

That being said (as I’m 34 weeks) has anyone had an Aries baby that came before his or her due date and was the labor a fast one or a long tedious one?

*I know that im going to get commenters that are going to say it isnt about what sign the baby is and that babies are born when they want, blah blah blah so to those posters I will say, that’s not what I asked… and if you can not answer the question, then move on. *

It’s just a fun little question. Also, for those parents with Aries babies, what was their personality like

Baby Talk answers:

I like this question! I am due April 11th but my c-section is scheduled for the 2nd. I don’t currently have any aries babies but this one has proven some of what you’re saying to be true. My first son was born at 37 weeks (june 13th) and is a gemini. (Just like me, I’m a gemini, we both have duel personalities) My second son was born at 32 weeks (nov. 1) and is a scorpio. This little guy obviously wants to be in first since I went into labor with him at 29 weeks. HAHA. So we will see if I make it to term. Good luck with your new baby!

Jemima asks…

Baby boy with the star sign Aries…?

My son was born on 3/9/10 I do not know much about the airies male personality. Now I know that in the end it’s up to my son to be the kind of man that he will want to be but lets face it people with the same star sign tend to have the same personality traits. So im wondering what my sons personality will be like.
OoOoO thnx for letting me know. So what’s a pisces like? lol
My son is a very good baby. I can take him anywhere and not have a problem with the crying. And he sleeps through the night and doesnt wake up until 10 or 11 in the morning. Sometimes i have to wake him up to feed him cuz he sleeps in too late. he does whine when he wants to be picked up or when he wants to eat. But once the bottle is in his mouth hes good to go. im told by everyone how lucky i got bc he is such a good baby.

Jim asks…

Grandparents want to invest money for grandchild (not educational), what type of account is best?

Basically, they want to invest money on a regular basis into a fund of some sort for their grandchild. The funds will not be used for any educational purpose, but for helping to build very long term/retirement savings. Ideally, the fund would grow tax free but be built with after tax dollars.

What is the best manner to do this?
Alchemis… thanks, but with an ordinary mutual fund, are the gains tax free? What about after the child is 18?

Baby Talk answers:

With an ordinary mutual fund the gains are not tax free. The only way for the fund to grow tax free would be if they were invested in a federal, state and local tax free muni bond fund or the child had a job and earned wages.
Anyone can give, tax free, up to $12,000 as a gift to anyone else each year. So if the grandparents are working, they can set up a ROTH IRA for themselves for many years and gift as a couple $24,000 to the mother, $24,000 to the father (who if they are trustable will later gift it to the child) and $24,000 to the child. If the grandparents are not working, their tax bracket may be low. Or, Vanguard, T. Rowe Price and other mutual fund companies have Tax-Managed mutual funds designed to keep taxes to a minimum.
You may want to consult a lawyer and set up a trust. Many children reach the age of 18 and are not really mature yet. You state you want it to be a very long term/retirement type savings. Without a trust, the day the child reaches 18, he/she get control of the money. Depending how he/she grows up, what is to keep him/her from buying a big hog (Harley-Davidson motorcycle) and heading for Fla for a month of “spring break.” A trust can keep you (or a bank) in control for as long as you want.

Susan asks…

How do I write an intervention on behalf of my grandchildren . But don’t have money for a lawyer.?

We cant see them. We want to be part of their lives. They live right now with the other grandparents.

Baby Talk answers:

I’m sorry, but you need to re-write this question. It makes absolutely no sense.

Why would you need to write anything on their behalf? Why can’t you see them? How old are they? Why would they need a lawyer? Et cetera.

Alana asks…

Why do some white grandparents act ashamed of their bi-racial grandchildren?

One of my friends who is black is married to a white guy and they just had a baby. His parents has other grand kids and spends a lot of time and money on them. But her little girl gets little love and attention from them. What’s going on with that? Give me some insight.

Baby Talk answers:

Our grandparents were born and raised in a time when there was little international relations and foreigners were usually looked down upon. Think of World War II or the Vietnam war. It’s not hard to imagine that those veterans would probably have biased thoughts about Asian kids here in the united states. We have globalized at a very fast rate and older generation adults cannot keep up with some modern mentality. It really is not their fault, they are bounded by their uprbinging and out-dated thoughts.

Also, some whites still have a white-dominant mentality and are ashamed that their future legacy are not full-whites.

Graham asks…

Grandparents treat grandchildren unequally. .?

I’ve been with husband a total of 5 years, and married for 1. We have a 16 month old son together, and he has a 5 year old daughter from a previous fling. I get angry when we visit them with the children b/c they treat the two grandchildren differently. My step-daughter gets things my son doesn’t and I feel as though its because she comes from what they call a “broken home” and my son doesn’t. It breaks my heart to think that grandparents would be that way and even more to think that my husband hasn’t stopped this yet. For example they will sneak her gifts or candy infront of my son and I can see the sadness in his face when she’s given something and he’s not. They do this with gifts, money, candy, you name it. I know if this doesn’t change now my son will someday catch on and be bothered by it even more. I’m not sure how to go about changing this without causing major friction between us all. Any suggestions??
thanks to everyone who answered. Atleast I don’t feel as though im wrong in feeling this way and its nice to know i’m not alone in dealing with these issues.

Baby Talk answers:

I’m not sure that there’s much you can do. My father’s parents pulled the same garbage on us because my parents were the only ones on that side of the family who could keep a marriage together. As a result, we were treated as second-class citizens. Over time, we ended spending less and less time with them and more time with my mother’s parents. It was their loss. When they were old and lonely, they regretted their decision. When they got older and the other grandchildren stopped coming around, we would go to visit them, but whenever they saw us, they had to deal with their own guilt for having treated us badly for all of those years.

Susan asks…

what are some solutions for bullying?

I am a very nice 15 yr old girl and am always getting bullied i can’t take it anymore any advice?

Baby Talk answers:

Listen to this: High school is tuff but it is temporary. Once you are out, you will be a different person and so will everyone else. One day, you will look back and it will seem so far away you will hardly believe it. I’m not trying to say that your feelings right now don’t matter. Just know that it will be over sooner than you think. Work hard and go to college and your life will change.

Daniel asks…

What can I do about one of my cats bullying the other two? Besides giving the bully away? Is there a solution?

The bully is a big cat…several pounds bigger than the others, and he seems to want to establish dominance on the other two on a daily basis. It’s getting old, but I hate the idea of giving him or the other two away. But the female that’s being bullied has become afraid to use the litter boxes, I guess he is attacking her while she’s relieving herself, I haven’t seen him doing it, but she has begun having bowel movements around the house. Somebody help me with this! Thanks.

Baby Talk answers:

Is the bully neutered? It is the only thing I can think of. Also giving them all attention and feeding them together helps. How long have they been together? If it is less than a few months, wait, they will manage to settle the difference amongst themselves.

Lisa asks…

What is the best solution to avoid humiliation and bully in class?

Baby Talk answers:

Stand up for yourself?

Marie asks…

What is the best way to reduce road bully cases in your country?

Place state where you live and why you think your solution is the best way to reduce road bully?

Baby Talk answers:

Pack themin jails and/or fine

Babies!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

My hamster just surprised me with babies yesterday and i accidentally touched them because I didnt know she had them. I went back down there today to see if she had eaten them and shes just in a big bundel at the corner of the cage. I thought i saw a baby underneath her but idk if i really did or not. is there a way i could see if she had any without touching them or disturbing her.

Baby Talk answers:

Hmm,Mother Hammies eat the babies.Keep a close eyes on her,if she does eat the babies, startle her with a whistle or a loud clap.Call a vet, about it.

Mike asks…

Baby Talk answers:

Lol my 5 year old thinks that my husband put a tiny egg in my belly button……are you 5? If you are, i just answed your question.

Lisa asks…

What do babies born in winter wear for outdoors and indoors?

I am due in Jan, 2009. I am wondering what kind of clothes are warm enough for babies indoors and outdoors.

Will the onesies do for indoors, or does the baby need more? Should the baby be dressed in multiple layers for outdoors. How much will be too warm for the baby?

Thanks!

Baby Talk answers:

My daughter (December baby) mostly wore sleepers indoors. But go by the temperature of your house. If you keep it warm, she may well be comfortable in a onesie.

For outside, remember that you can’t have a lot of thick clothing in the carseat, so layers are good idea. A warm bunting for outside, and a lighter/thinner jacket for the carseat.

Ken asks…

How do I get one baby rabbit to stay with the other four babies in the nest box?

Our rabbit had five babies together, all in the nest box. Four of the babies are staying together in the next box, in the hollow dug out by their mom, but one baby keeps crawling out and across the nest box, away from the other babies. How to I keep them together?

Baby Talk answers:

This depends on how old they are. If they are 10 days or older, they are probably OK out of the nest box, and mom will sometimes put them back in. If not, you need a taller rim ( mine is usually 4-6 in) on the opening to the box. In other words, it should be deeper. I hope that makes sense. Also, add hay or a mat outside the box to prevent exposure if he jumps out again.

Helena asks…

How can I set up my photography studio to take pictures of infants?

I have a photography studio, with the posing stools and all, but do not have the equipment to do babies, but a customer wants her 5month old grandson to have his picture made for Easter with a bunny or dog or something. What kind of kiddie-chairs or posers could I use? I made the suggestion of getting a car seat and putting a nice baby blanket over it, but my husband said that was tacky. :( Any suggestions??

Baby Talk answers:

How about a big basket to sit in or an old fashioned suitcase. If you use a basket then you can put a small cushion at the bottom and drape material over it as well for a different look. At 5 months he may still be young enough to lay on his tummy too.

Nancy asks…

I am looking for a support poser for a baby called a noodle?

It’s a very bendable and pose able poser that we used to use at our old photography studio. No one seems to know where it came from though. Anyone know where I can find one at?

Baby Talk answers:

Try Walmart, Target or if in Canada, Canadian Tire. They are used a lot in swimming pools so call your local pool and ask them where they get theirs from.

Lynn asks…

Baby photos. Taking them yourself and people acting like it’s wrong..?

My daughter is 6 months and I haven’t taken her to get her pictures made. I take all her pictures and have taken some really good ones. I have a friend who just had her baby and is taking him to get his photos done tomorrow and she basically said it was wrong of me to not have gotten her photos done yet. I said well, i’ve taken tons of photos of her and basically set up a “scene” for some of them. I’m really into photography and have read a ton of books about getting great shots and poses and I really like some of the ones I’ve gotten done. I’ve also sent a lot of the ones I’ve done to family….I know I’m not a bad mom, but she made me feel like I was wrong in a way. Has anyone else taken their baby‘s pictures themselves? I just kinda felt like she was saying, well i’m getting his done, why aren’t you? Just asking for opinions here, but do any of you think it’s “wrong” to not get baby‘s pics professionally made?

Baby Talk answers:

My son is also six months old. I took him in to get pictures only once because it was pictures with his cousin and that’s what my sister wanted to do. I take really great pictures at home too. My favorites are outdoors and doing things. I took him to the apple orchard yesterday and took pictures that I couldn’t have gotten at a photographer’s place. I think that you’re doing the right thing, and I wouldn’t listen anyways. I would rather be able to take as many shots as I want to get the ones that I really want than to have a photographer get tired of taking pictures and tell me which one’s I can buy. Its more fun that way anyways! Here’s a pic I took yesterday of Gavin… Http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp322/nickistar23/Gavin/Gavin6Months131.jpg

Graham asks…

anybody gotten professional baby photos around 3 months?

So i was going to go get professional baby photos at 3,6,9,12 months but i don’t really have the money for them right now and my daughter is 3 months in a few days, so i was planning on taking them myself. I have taken a lot of photography classes, and i actually have a very nice camera, so i think i will have some fun with this and hope they turn out well :) and just print them at walmart for a lot cheaper than a professional place. Anyways…

I just wanted to know what cute poses and things to do with my daughter? she cant sit up yet obviously but she is a very smiley baby so i think this wont be so hard haha. I am going to take them on this white soft blanket with a white background so i was wondering if anybody has some cute ideas?
Yay lots of great ideas !

Baby Talk answers:

I don’t know where you live, but if you have some nice fall leaves, you could sprinkle them around her. I’ve seen some with two teddys stuffed in a crate with baby in the middle. If you have some pink ribbon, make a big bow and put it on her back. You could put something solid under the blanket and prop her up. Have fun!

good online pregnancy quiz?

im 15 im worried that im pregnant.
I KNOW THIS WILL NOT TELL ME IF IM REALLY PREGNANT OR NOT!! it will just give me something to chew on.

the babyzone one isnt working and it keeps freezing. are there any other ones that are legit like that one?

again I KNOW ITS NOT A REAL PREGNANCY TEST!!!

Baby Talk answers:

What the point?
Really, if you truly wanted to know if you were pregnant you would take a pregnancy test; not an online one. Just go to the store, its not worth it.

Steve asks…

Hey pregnant mommas! pregnancy survey/quiz just for fun!…?

I didn’t know whether to call it a survey or quiz lol but here’s a few questions for all you pregnant ladies! I love hearing about everyone else’s experiences!

1)Due date and how far along are you? -Im 36weeks+1day due August 11th.

2)How/When did you first fund out? -I took a HPT 3 days before my missed period and it was positive!!

3)What was your first reaction? – We were very very excited, we conceived our first month of trying so it was a big surprise and just a blessing!

3)Are you having a boy, girl, or keeping it a surprise? -We are having a little girl!

4)Name/s you have picked out? -Her name will be Jessalyn, we aren’t 100% on a middle name yet.

5)Favorite part of this pregnancy? -The multiple ultrasounds I have had(due to high BP) and getting to see her and how much she is growing.

6)Least favorite part of this pregnancy? -Horrible hip/pelvic pain(SPD) which makes it nearly impossible to roll over in bed or pretty much do anything without having excrutiating pain!!

7)Biggest worry or fear about labor? -I’m worried about either needing an emergency C-section or having a bowel movement while pushing!

8)Delivery method: VBAC, C-section, water birth, vaginal w/o pain meds, vaginal with pain meds, etc.? -I hope to have a vaginal delivery with an epidural.

9)Are you OK with what you have gained so far?(weight is a touchy subject so feel free to skip this if you want!). -I’ve gained 36 pounds so far, not too thrilled but I haven’t gained anything else in 2 months so maybe it will stay that way for the next few weeks! Lol!

10)How was your morning sickness/How long did it last? -I was very lucky this time and didn’t have much for morning sickness at all! Some days I would have an upset stomach, but never spent time bent over the toilet!

*other things about the pregnancy or baby you want to share, feel free! -At our ultrasound Tuesday, they predicted her to be 7lbs.3oz. already! BIG!! And she has a very noticeable amount of hair, I’m very excited about that!

Hope you enjoy, lots of love and baby kicks to all!!
Sorry guys, an hour later I realize there’s two number 3′s! And a couple typos. I apologize about that, I use my blackberry and the first time I tried posting I had to reboot my phone because it froze so I had to redo it so I kind of hurried through it cuz it takes forever on a phone!!! Lol

Baby Talk answers:

Aw! I love hearing other people’s expirence’s as well! Thanks for making a survey, so fun!

1. I am 27 weeks and one whole day[= Actually I'm on day number two now (its after midnight!) =]

2. My husabnd and I started trying for me to get pregnant a few weeks before my annual check-up, we had only been trying for a few weeks so when my doctor told me I was pregnant I was astounded! It was WAY quicker than I expected! =]

3(number one)- Our first reactions was AHHH! We never expected to get pregnant so fast! We were THRILLED. It’s my husbands first children (its twins! I know I sound like a troll, but I’m not.. Honest!) I have one older son, and he was SO EXCITED to be an older brother! Our entire family was just thrilled! Like bouncing off the walls!

3. We are actually having twins (as I mentioned above. Its unbelievable, considering we had never even considered that possibility, though twins(and triplets! Thank god I’m not having three) do run in the family on both sides!) We are keeping the genders a surprise, as hard as its been for me not to just cheat and find out! =]

4. Well, for a boy and a girl I love Elodie Kristen and Leonardo Patrick. For a girl and a girl we like Elisa Scarlett and Amara ‘Molly’ Niamh (Neev) . For two boys we like Leonardo Patrick and Vincent Collin, but recently I have started LOVING Elias Shane.

5. Just knowing that my son is going to finally have siblings (he is eight years old and has been waiting so long!). I also love the ultrasounds and feeling them kick!

6. Well, I’m a petite woman with two big babies inside of me, and its been really hard giving up exercising and keeping up with my son. My back and feet kill! Also, you have to intake a CRAZY amount of calories with twins. By week 24 of pregnancy you are supposed to have gained 24-25 pounds!! I was really behind (Im only at nearly 25 pounds gained now and I’m on week 27!) so I have to drink protein shakes and multivitamens to give the twins more nutrition! Its really hard (but worth it).

7. Well if you don’t gain enough weight (and I haven’t been), the chance of premature delivery increases signifigantly, so I’m mostly worried about my babies health! Also, I am really sensitive to pain, but I got through it last round!

8. We are hoping for a natual vaginal birth with no epidural (I got really sick from it last round) but because I have twins I may need a C-section, but so far so good!

9. For me, I am a really small girl natually so its really hard to gain the weight I need to. As I said earlier I’ve gained about 25 pounds (almost) and my doctors are trying me to gain more! I guess I can’t worry about it because its really important that my twins get the nutrition they need! By the end of my pregnancy I am supposed to have gained 35 pounds at the very least, and gaining 45-50 is the goal! It’s kind of depressing for me to gain 50 pounds, but weight gain with twins is especially important because you are supporting the nutrition of three human beings, and it shows progression in pregnancy. So, I’m not really ‘okay’ with it, but I need to keep eating to keep my twins healthy (they are still healthy now but premature birth is a huge risk!).

10. I had it pretty bad from about 5 weeks to 10 weeks. Every single morning, over the toliet… After week 10 until like week 18 or 19 I was just really nauseous all of the time. Haha its all worth it though! And it’s not that bad at all anymore!

I might add some more later! I love telling all about my pregnancy! =]
